Guyana - Bridge, Rain, Pumps, Dogs

Reported by Owen Banks

Bridge:
The Berbice Bridge is supposedly 50% to 60% complete depending on the news source and this is just for the bridge itself which probably includes stored materials and work in place. From the timeline - they started in 2006 and up to May 2008 they are 50% to 60% completed - yet they claim they are on schedule. This project is going at an extremely slow pace.

Rain:
We had a lot of rain yesterday and of course there was flooding. We now hear the honourable MBA Minister Butternut saying that there are no more mobile pumps to be deployed and NDCs should make sure that kokers are opened in time. Now what the butternut is this?

Pumps:
Do you know that after the 2005 floods there were pumps galore given to this Country. Between the ones which were left to rotten on the seawall and the ones taken to be used in farms owned by ???, we now do not have any pumps to drain the land again. Of course with Carifesta around the corner, we will have a good reason to justify another loan or some aid to buy new pumps.... and the story goes on.

Dogs:
By the way even the dogs in Guyana getting fed up and extremely vicious, just the other day they attacked and thief a man’s scalp. There was a time when dogs in Guyana were called rice eaters, now they are man eaters - Guyana going to the dogs.
